I studied English Literature at VisvaBharati University in 1975 and was a UGC Junior Research Fellow in the Department of English and Modern European Languages at the University.
My first job was in the same department as an Assistant Professor in 1978.
I completed my Ph.D. in 1983 and my thesis was in the area of Literary Theory and Criticism.
I joined the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1984 and did a MA after which I continued to do a Ph.d. in Comparative Literature. I completed the degree in 1990 and received award.
