- Sherin B.S. is Associate Professor, in the Department of Comparative Literature and India Studies, The English and Foreign Languages University. Her academic interests include Gender Studies, Secularism and Religion in India, Comparative Studies, Regional Cinema, Contemporary Art, Urban Studies and Malayalam Literature. Comparative Feminisms, Women’s Autobiographies, Indian Literary Traditions, Nation in Narration, Literature and Other Arts and Cities, Space and Culture are some of the courses she teaches. Her PhD is on “Islam and Women in Kerala,” from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. She is a recipient of the fellowships, “The Study of the U.S. Institutes” at University of California Santa Barbara (2015) British Academy Fellowship for the workshop Global Southern Epistemologies ( 2018,) and Charles Wallace Fellowship at University of Cambridge (2023-24.) A bilingual scholar, she has published in English and Malayalam with peer-reviewed journals and also in non- academic platforms on topics of contemporary relevance. Her monograph on Women and Islam is published by Orient Blackswan, titled Gendering Minorities: Muslim Women and the Politics of Modernity (2021). She is also the author of Feminism, Desheeyatha, Muthalaq: Prathi Vyavahaarangalude Raashtreeyam (Feminism, Nationalism and Triple Talaq: The Politics of Counter Discourses) 2018, in Malayalam.

- Primarily specialized in Comparative Literature, Gender and Minority Studies, Sherin’s research focuses on Comparative Studies, Regional Cinema and Literature, Gender in India and Secularism and Religion. At present, she is also working on Urban Studies as part of the spatial turn in literature, and Feminist Art as a key area related to literature and other arts. The trans-medial, trans-national and trans-cultural nature of comparative literature facilitates an interdisciplinary methodology in her research. She has supervised theses of scholars on Visual Culture, Gender and Queer Studies, Masculinity Studies, Mappila Studies, Art History, and Urban Literature and Culture
