EFL University -Skill Development Centre: Training the Teachers for the Nation
Introduction
The EFL University- Skill Development Centre: Training the Teachers for the Nation
is an outreach programme of the university. The university provides academic
support to teachers of English at the high school and college levels in rural and
backward regions of the country through this programme. The programme has
emerged in 2017 as a result of the merger of two prominent schemes, namely, the
District Centre Scheme (DCS) and the English Language Teaching Institutes
Support Scheme (ELTISS). The merger was implemented to make the training cost
effective, efficient and more relevant to the growing needs of teachers of English. It
is also hoped that this training would ultimately have a cascade effect, whereby the
trained teachers act as master trainers for others.
SDC –TTN will achieve these objectives by
preparing master trainers to train other teachers with partnership with state
governments
conducting long-term and short-term courses for teachers of English
supporting and empowering teachers in rural areas by providing them with
materials
