EFLU offers six English proficiency courses through its Progress to Proficiency program; two courses for each level – Advanced and Basic
– during a year, for foreign nationals from different professions. Special country-wise Proficiency Programmes are also offered on the
request made by the concerned Indian embassy through the MEA.
The focus of these courses is to improve the participant’s proficiency in the use of English. Emphasis is laid on the development of
listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in addition to grammar and vocabulary development. Training in communication skills
and presentation skills is also provided.
ITP also offers four-week country wise Proficiency cum Professional Development Programmes for teachers of English. The focus of
such programmes is to train teachers of English in the latest methodologies, strategies and techniques of teaching English and to
help them evolve into better teachers of the English language. These programmes include classroom lectures with audio, video and
computer inputs; participant presentations; tutorials; extension lectures by experts in various fields; fortnightly tests; and a
final examination.
Successful candidates are awarded certificates at the end of the course. Participants are also provided book kits. Extra-curricular
activities include visits to places of historical and cultural interest in and around Hyderabad. Participants also take part in
cultural events at the University and in Hyderabad city.
In the academic years 2020-22, no face-to-face programmes were conducted, due to the
Covid 19 pandemic and the closure of country borders. Regular programmes commenced after the pandemic.
