The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) is a distinguished unit within The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Established in 1983 by the University Grants Commission (UGC), EMRC stands as one of the pioneering centers in India for producing educational television programs.
A Legacy of Innovation
Since its inception, EMRC has been at the forefront of educational broadcasting. In 1984, it became one of the first four centers to produce content for the UGC–Country Wide Class Room (CWCR) telecast on Doordarshan. Initially focused on creating video programs and documentaries to enhance the quality of higher education, the Centre has significantly expanded its scope over the years.
Diverse Educational Initiatives
E-Content Development: Under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT) project,
EMRC has diversified into e-content development, playing a crucial role in the digital transformation of education.
MOOCs for SWAYAM: The Centre is actively involved in creating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the SWAYAM platform, making quality
education accessible to a broader audience.
DTH Channel VAGEESH: EMRC also operates the DTH Channel VAGEESH under the SWAYAMPRABHA Project, providing educational content around the clock.
Comprehensive Services and Activities
EMRC is dedicated to producing a wide array of educational online programs across various platforms, including traditional TV, e-learning platforms under NME-ICT, DTH, and Online Learning and Research Resources (OLLRs). Additionally, the Centre conducts various workshops and interactive programs to enhance educational production skills and student engagement:
Workshops: Production-related workshops, MOOCs workshops, SWAYAMPRABHA workshops, and research workshops.
Interactive Programs: Student interactive quiz programs and feature-based academic programs like "The Pursuit," "New Horizons," and "Wisdom Hunt."
